McMillan Rifles

Phoenix, Arizona --(Ammoland.com)- McMillan is building 20 limited edition M40A1 Commemorative United States Marine Corps sniper rifle packages in honor of the Marine Corps and the legacy of the military sniper.

The M40A1 rifles are being built to the exact configuration as those originally issued. McMillan is calling the series Project 8541—the number used to designate Marine Corps snipers.

Gale McMillan, founder of McMillan, worked with the Marine Corps in 1975 to develop the M40A1 sniper rifle, recognized today as the first rifle designed as a true sniper rifle. The M40A1 is credited with the birth of the modern sniper rifle as well as ushering in a new era of rifle technology. For Gale McMillan’s contribution, in 2000 the Marine Corps presented him with a Service Award, a used dewatted M40A1. Each of the commemorative rifles is a replica of Gale McMillan’s original M40A1 rifle.

To further ensure the authenticity of the M40A1 Commemorative Rifle, McMillan traveled to Quantico Marine Corps Base and interviewed Marine armorers on specifications and gunsmithing procedures.

Each rifle is equipped with a MST-100 scope, period correct base and rings, Wichita swivels, leather military sling, and a numbered certificate of authenticity. The package comes in a custom inlet olive Pelican case.

In addition to the rifle, each package includes an original returned M40A1 stock from an actual USMC M40A1 service rifle. The Marine Corps issued 20 original stocks, each as unique in appearance as the men who used them. They come complete with the actual swivels and bottom metal they were received with, some matching some simply attached, but all original.

“The original rifle stocks have seen combat in places like Panama, Granada and Desert Storm. We only have 20 stocks available for the commercial market. It is a great rifle package for anyone who honors the Marine Corps and the sniper program. McMillan is proud to be part of our military history,” said Kelly McMillan, director of operations for McMillan .

According to Ryan McMillan, vice president of McMillan Firearms, “Collectors will appreciate owning a piece of history when purchasing the M40A1 Rifle Package.”

M40A1 Commemorative Rifle Specifications:

  • The 25” barrel utilizes conventional rifling with a 1 in 12” twist and has a M40A1 spec barrel contour. It is finished off with a deep recessed target crown matching the rifle given to Gale McMillan.
  • The action is a blue-printed Remington 700 short action that includes surface ground recoil lug; trued receiver face, threads, receiver lug shoulders and bolt head, and finally lapped bolt lugs. The receiver is machined with the correct stripper clip slots along with the ejection port modification and is marked “U.S.” above the serial number to match the original issue M40A1.
  • The stock is a McMillan plain HTG with molded-in forest camo, like the original, no stippling or checkering is present. Correct Wichita 1 1/4” sling swivels are anchored into the stock by internal molded-in steel inserts per the original contract. The 1/2” brown Pachmayr basket weave recoil pad is fitted for the 13 1/2″ LOP. The action is hand bedded along with the 1 1/2” of barrel cylinder forward of the recoil lug. The remainder of the barrel is free-floated.
  • The bottom metal is steel Winchester Model 70 style two-piece modified for the M40A1. Socket cap bolts, not factory slotted guard screws hold everything together. Like the originals, the BDL magazine box is welded to the receiver.
  • The serial numbers on all sub assemblies reflect the high level of attention to detail. The last 4 digits of the serial number are stamped into the bolt handle, bottom metal including both the door and trigger bow, scope base, and barrel. “RTE-P”, the proof mark of the dedicated USMC creators of the original M40A1, has been reproduced and placed along side the serial number on the barrel.
  • The scope is a continuation of the original contract steel tubed MST-100 10x furnished on the M40A1s. US Optics picked up the scope contract after it ran out with Unertl and performed all upgrades and refurbishing, as well as supplying new optics.
  • The scope base is hand fitted to the receiver just as the originals were. The one piece period correct U.S.O. base and rings are a true match to the original Unertl mounts. The trigger is a Remington trigger tuned to a crisp 3 pounds.

Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 158-year old firearms maker, is offering collectors, hunters, and shooters a chance to own a piece of history with the introduction of a limited edition Model 27 revolver dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the .357 Magnum.

Lavishly covered with American style scrollwork, the beautifully engraved Model 27 revolver features the hand drawn artwork of Smith & Wesson engraver David Mishichak.

This stylized design, machine engraved with precision and the finest attention to detail, is a fitting tribute to the historic anniversary of this legendary cartridge.

Collaboratively developed by some of the industry’s most notable names including Elmer Keith, Colonel D.B. Wesson and Phillip Sharpe, the .357 Magnum quickly became the quintessential self defense round. Offering improved penetration along with a flatter trajectory and limited recoil, the .357 Magnum soon became the most sought after cartridge by members of law enforcement. As the popularity of the cartridge continued to rise, so did the Smith & Wesson Model 27 or as it was more commonly referred to during the period – the Registered Magnum.

Soon, the revolver was found everywhere from the hips of police officers on the mean streets of Kansas City, to Texas where legendary lawman Skeeter Skelton called the Model 27 “the best all-around handgun.” The F.B.I. employed them as well; even General George S. Patton carried one into battles during World War II. Now, shooters everywhere have a chance to own their own through this limited edition anniversary model.

“Throughout the history of the company, Smith & Wesson has been a leader in many of the industry’s firsts,” said James Debney, President of Firearms Business for Smith & Wesson.

“Both the .357 Magnum and the Model 27 are living examples of this and they demonstrate our company’s innovative mind-set and willingness to stretch the boundaries. The anniversary Model 27 is truly artwork on a steel canvas and it would be a welcome addition to anyone’s personal collection.”

Constructed of carbon steel and built on a large N-Frame, this six-shot .357 Magnum/.38 S&W Special revolver is available with a 6 ½ – inch barrel and a bright blued finish. Across the revolver’s barrel, frame and cylinder, elaborate engraving gives the Model 27 a striking look and sense of purpose. The classic handgun comes with engraved square-butt walnut grips, pinned patridge front sight and a micro-adjustable rear sight.

Featuring a crisp single action and smooth double action trigger pull, the revolver stays true to the specifications of the original Model 27 while meeting modern shooters’ demands for accuracy and reliability. Only 500 anniversary models will be produced with a unique serial number range from SFY0001 to SFY0500. Each Model 27 will be shipped complete with a wooden glass top presentation case.

Shooting sports enthusiasts will have a chance to bid on serial number, SFY0001 of the 75th Anniversary Model 27, through a live auction on the Gunbroker.com website.

Smith & Wesson will donate the proceeds of the auction to USA Shooting to support USA Shooting Team athletes and programs.

“Smith & Wesson has always been a strong supporter of the shooting sports and by partnering with them on this 75th Anniversary Model 27 .357 revolver, the proceeds of serial #0001 will benefit not only our athletes but also our various shooting programs,” said Buddy DuVall, USA Shooting Team Foundation Executive Director.

“Each year the men and women involved with USA Shooting spend countless hours refining their skills in hopes of qualifying for the next major match and ultimately the Olympics. Through our partnership with Smith & Wesson, not only will you have the chance to own a highly collectible firearm, but you will also be able to support those athletes who represent the United States in International and Olympic shooting competitions.”

Friends of NRA Announces 2011 Gun of the Year

Friends of NRA 2011 Gun of the Year

Friends of NRA 2011 Gun of the Year

Friends of NRA

Friends of NRA

Charlotte, NC --(Ammoland.com)- Thanks to collaboration with Colt and Baron’s Engraving, Friends of NRA is pleased to announce the 2011 Gun of the Year: a custom made Colt 1911 that honors the firearm’s 100 years of service in the United States Armed Forces and will be a great addition to any firearm enthusiast’s collection.

Following its success in trials, the Colt pistol was formally adopted by the Army in the year 1911, thus gaining its designation as the Colt Model 1911. Later adopted by both the Navy and Marine Corps in 1913, the high-demand for the pistol during both World Wars undoubtedly led to its universal popularity today.

The Colt 1991TM Series is a direct descendant of the original 1911A1 and after more than nine decades many consider it the standard which has often been imitated, but never duplicated. The pistol dually serves as both a staple of the military and as an iconic symbol for it. After two years in development and in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the 1911 model, the combined efforts of Friends of NRA, Colt Manufacturing and Baron’s Engraving bring you the exclusive 2011 Friends of NRA Gun of the Year – A unique Colt Model 01991Z Government .45ACP with commemorative engraving illustrating every major war in which the Colt prevailed.

“It was an honor working with two respected, American owned companies to develop this exclusive pistol for Friends of NRA events,” said John DaSilva, National Manager of Events and Marketing.

“We know our volunteers are very excited and pleased with the opportunity to feature the Colt 1911 pistol at fundraising events beginning in 2011.”

The 2011 Gun of the Year is custom made with a 24 karat gold plated barrel bushing and screws on the grip panels and ornate embellished slides. The serpentine Colt logo and “2011 Gun of the Year” text is featured in a 24 karat selective gold fill on the right side of the firearm’s slide with sculpted roll engraving boasting a scrolling banner with the phrase “Military U.S. Standard” alongside the names of every major war it participated in. The left side slide features the rampant Colt horse and “Colt 1911 100 Years” embellished in 24kt gold fill and sculpted roll engraving showcasing four military vehicles used by the U.S. throughout wartime.

Offered only at your local Friends of NRA events, each pistol has a 5” barrel, carbon steel polished blued finish, 7+1 capacity, standard grip safety, spur hammer and custom rosewood grips with an NRA medallion recessed on both panels. Every specially produced Colt commemorative pistol in this limited edition is individually serialized in sequential order from “1911NRA0000” through “1911NRA1150.” Each is encased in a Colt Blue Custom Shop box with white sleeve and can be added to your existing Colt collection.

Friends of NRA is a grassroots fund-raising program that fosters community involvement, raises money, and gives 100 percent of the net proceeds to qualified local, state, and national programs. Working with the NRA’s field staff, thousands of volunteers nationwide participate in the program by organizing committees and planning events in their communities. Over the course of its history, over 12,000 events have been held which have reached over two million attendees. Monies raised at these events go to The NRA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Wilson Combat

Wilson Combat

Berryville, AR --(Ammoland.com)- Wilson Combat will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the gun that helped build our company and the American genius that invented it, John Moses Browning.

Browning was the greatest firearms designer the world has ever known and the 1911 handgun is arguably his best effort. Designed in a time when electricity was still new and automobiles were a rare sight- the 1911 is a true engineering masterpiece that has not only withstood the test of time, but also evolved into what many consider the ultimate fighting pistol.

When considering a special gun to pay tribute to this important anniversary and this extraordinary man, we wondered what would John Moses Browning create today if he had Wilson Combat engineering and manufacturing quality at his disposal and the benefit of seeing how his creation had evolved in the last century?

Using the same materials Browning would have used in his era like forged and billet machined carbon steels, presentation walnut for grips and painstakingly hand-finished bone charcoal blue from Doug Turnbull, Wilson Combat has built a modern version of what Browning might have originally envisioned with his 1911-The New Wilson Combat Contemporary Classic.

Limited to 100 serial numbered pieces in 2011, the Contemporary Classic is hand crafted with turn-of-the-century materials and finish-with many Wilson enhanced performance options to suit the modern shooter. Custom features abound-and they all have a practical purpose-fine checkering fore and aft for enhanced grip, better sights with a gold bead insert front blade, and better ergonomic controls like a beavertail grip safety that will make this an easier pistol to shoot well than an original-especially for more than a handful of rounds. A fine presentation case is included to protect and display your investment.

Browning’s original features still remain like an integral lanyard loop attachment for field use and flat mainspring housing and long, steel trigger that will still fit most hands perfectly a century later. We added our carry cuts to the front of the slide in deference to Browning’s second greatest handgun design, the GP-35 or “Hi-Power”, a feature that gives a the slide distinctive silhouette and enables easy holstering. You will also note the “JMB” initials and unique serial number, our lasting tribute to the “Maestro” on every gun.

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- A specially engraved Colt 1911 celebrating the 100th anniversary of that acclaimed side arm and featuring the Serial Number 1911COLT2011 is featured as a 2011 SHOT Show auction gun.

Typically, a milestone firearm such as this 100th Anniversary 1911 ends up locked away in a museum, a company vault or in a company executive’s private collection. But thanks to Colt and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, this highly collectible handgun is being made available to Colt enthusiasts world-wide through auction on GunBroker.com.

In only the second day of the auction on GunBroker.com, more than 15,000 enthusiasts had viewed the gun and sent bidding over the $10,000 mark.

This special Colt boasts unique engraving, grips and features to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Model 1911 and the Colt Company’s role in the history of that iconic firearm.

The left side of the gun features a prominent and powerful hand inlaid gold inscription, “100 YEARS AT AMERICA’S SIDE” and a gold-inlaid Rampant Colt.

The right side features large gold inlays including “1911-2011″ and the serpentine “Colt”. In addition, the serial number “1911COLT 2011″ is hand-engraved and inlaid with gold.

All engraving work is by Colt Custom Shop Master Engravers, Steve Kamyk and George Spring. Engraving style is American Scroll with “B” (50 percent) coverage. All metal surfaces are polished and finished in Colt Royal Blue.

The gun also includes specially designed ivory grips with gold-plated Colt 1911 Anniversary Medallions.

As a very special bonus, the high bidder will be invited to visit the Colt Factory in Hartford, Connecticut on March 29, 2011—the official 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Army’s approval of the 1911 as the U.S. Army sidearm. Winner will be given a private tour of the factory, will have lunch with Colt Management, receive a package of special Colt logo items and collectibles and will have photos taken with the Colt engravers.

During this visit, the high bidder will visit the Colt Historical Department and will be presented with an official document authenticating his Colt as the one and only 100th Anniversary 1911 featured as the 2011 SHOT Show gun and featuring the historic 1911COLT2011 Serial number. And to top off this special package, the high bidder will have the opportunity to have his or her initials engraved on spare mainspring housing as a keepsake or to have installed on their 1911.

The gun will be displayed in the Colt Booth at the SHOT Show, Booth # 12562.

All proceeds from the auction of this historic firearm will benefit the programs to further the Hunting Heritage Trust’s programs to further America’s hunting and shooting sports heritage.

As in recent years, bidding for the SHOT Show auction items will take place exclusively on GunBroker.com. GunBroker.com is a partner of both of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the Hunting Heritage Trust.

The Colt SHOT Show auction opened for bidding on www.GunBroker.com on December 17, 2010 and will close at 1:00 pm Friday, January 21, 2011.

A special auction of two Browning firearms, including a new Model 1911-22 featuring Serial # 1911—and a new Model Browning that will be announced on GunBroker.com on January 1, 2011 will also be featured as SHOT Show auction guns.

The SHOT Show auction is administered by the Hunting Heritage Trust for the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Antonio Zoli North America Introduces the Z-Sport Bilanx Shotgun

Antonio Zoli Na Z-Sport Bilanx Shotgun

Antonio Zoli Na Z-Sport Bilanx Shotgun

Zoli Firearms

ZOLI Firearms

Canandaigua, NY --(Ammoland.com)- Antonio Zoli North America has added the Z-Sport Bilanx to its family of world-class shotguns.

With its new precision mechanical trigger group and the recently patented BHB Between the Hands Balancing system, the Bilanx is the ultimate in competition shotguns.

Distinguishing itself as the only shotgun engineered to house an internal balancing system within the grip of the stock, this patented concept keeps the weight between the hands. The Bilanx (pronounced Be-la(nx) allows every serious competitive shooter to customize the necessary control, balance and swing dynamics that is paramount in a well-fitted shotgun, while they are shooting.

The Between the Hands Balancing system is comprised of two weight components. The quick detachable, modular grip cap mechanism fits into the buttstock grip accommodating six threaded steel disk weights adding up to three ounces. It can be instantly removed and the weight adjusted. Other brands using stock-bolt weights cause the shooter to remove the buttpad each time to adjust weight. The forend weight system has the capacity to add up to twenty individual four-gram weights easily installed onto the side ribs underneath the forend. Therefore, all adjustment weights are between the hands providing for instant precision adjustment of gun swing dynamics.

Steve Lamboy, General Manager of Antonio Zoli North America said, “Our competitive shooters know a well balanced gun reduces swing effort and conserves stamina needed during serious competitions. They have wanted a precision balancing system that would allow them to easily, fine- tune their shotguns without adding weight near the ends of the gun like the stock bolt. The Between the Hands Balancing system in the Bilanx provides this with a simple and intuitive design they can use while shooting a practice round.”

The Z-Sport Bilanx is available in 12, 20 and 28 gauge with various barrel lengths; choice of a fine nickel or deep blue finish and stocks carved from high grade fancy Turkish walnut with fine checkering and hand rubbed oil finish. Zoli precision barrels guarantee P.O.I.

The new, hand detachable mechanical trigger system is Titanium Nitride treated and is fully adjustable fore and aft for grip fit and has crisp, precision let-off. Powered by robust coil springs for guaranteed ignition, it automatically sets up the second shot even if the first round is a dud. “The BHB system and the new hand-detachable mechanical trigger group of the Z-Sport Bilanx shows our commitment to develop the most advanced precision competition shotguns for the U.S. shooters. At Zoli, serious commitment is the foundation of our reputation,” said Paolo Zoli, President of Zoli Antonio s.r.l.

Antonio Zoli North America is a division of Zoli Antonio s.r.l of Gardone, Italy, one of the oldest family owned firearm manufactures in the northern region of Brescia, Italy. Dating to the late 1860’s and continuing today, the Zoli family and skilled craftsman manufacture high performance shotguns that are famous for their precision barrels and the new Z Series Boss action design for competition and game. For more information about the full product line of world-class shotguns and why Zoli is the only choice to meet your shooting needs, visit www.zoli-northamerica.com or call (585) 394-1271.

Best wishes for a great Labor Day holiday weekend.

Can I Change Or Remove The Factory Factory Engraving On My Gun? Image: coltautos.com

Michigan Coalition For Responsible Gun Owners

Michigan Coalition For Responsible Gun Owners

Michigan - -(Ammoland.com)- Q: My pistol has a lot of engraving on it. Meaning, it has the maker’s name, the model name, the caliber, and the serial number in two places. I’d like to have some of this removed by a gunsmith, just for the sake of appearance. Of course, I would not remove the serial numbers. Can I do this legally?

A: MCL 750.230 states: “A person who shall willfully alter, remove, or obliterate the name of the maker, model, manufacturer’s number, or other mark of identity of a pistol or other firearm, shall be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment for not more than 2 years or fine of not more than $1,000.00. Possession of a firearm upon which the number shall have been altered, removed, or obliterated, other than an antique firearm as defined by section 231a(2)(a) or (b), shall be presumptive evidence that the possessor has altered, removed, or obliterated the same.”

So, not only do you have to leave the serial numbers on the pistol. You also have to leave all marks of identity. As you can see above, the penalty for removing any of the information listed is quite severe. Also note that merely possessing a gun that has been unlawfully altered raises the presumption that you did, or ordered, the removal.

So, the only safe course of action I can recommend is to leave all factory engraving intact. I can find no prohibition on adding decorative, or personalized engraving so long as the original factory engraving is left intact.
